Raphael Roginski + Joseba Irazoki

Raphael Roginski – guitarist, composer and performer, improviser, cultural animator and researcher of musical folklore. Trained in jazz and classical music, he expanded his education to include musicology and ethnomusicology. The mix of these two paths is an indicator of the style of his work in terms of composition and performance.

Associated with Eastern Europenian Jewish culture, he conducts research on its forgotten traditions, translating their meaning into the present day. Bands such as Cukunft and Shofar, of which he was the leader, were pioneering bands translating tradition into modern times.

He also plays music from Turkish, Bedouin, African, Sami, Persian, Armenian and many other countries, performing them with musicians from these places.

In-depth analysis of guitar techniques, classic blues guitarists and knowledge of the instruments of the 1950s and 1960s can be heard in his bands such as Wovoka and Shy Albatross.

In 2018-2020, Rogiński cooperates with the Slovenian band Širom. His fascination with the culture of the 1970s in Senegal led him to found the band Hizbut Jamm. The Elik band, founded with the legend of alternative Ukrainian music, Svitlana Nianio, is dedicated to Ukrainian mythology. During the pandemic, the „Dobroczynne Niguny” program for solo guitar is created, where he composed niguns (mystical Jewish songs). In a duet with Natalia Przybysz, they re-read the music of the 60s and 70s. The solo album „Talán” released by Instant Calssic in September 2023 is receiving very positive reviews in Poland and abroad.
